Why is Utah Electrical Continuing Education (UCE) important? UCE provides individuals in Utah the opportunity to gain valuable educational courses that are relevant to current job market demands and the skills needed to meet the requirements of the state and national electrical code.
Courses offered range from an introductory introduction to electrical code updates, to advanced coursework designed to meet local and national standards and requirements. Through UCE you can prepare for employment in the electrical trade or enjoy continuing education courses to develop the technical and life skills needed to work in the electrical industry.
UCE is available to anyone who is over the age of 16 and has a high school diploma or GED and who wants to advance their technical skills, attain a license or certification, or get enrolled in a degree program.
Why attend a UCE course?
No matter where you live in Utah, you can take advantage of UCE courses that are offered throughout the year. In addition to being offered at locations in Salt Lake, Salt Lake Valley, and Utah County, courses are also offered in various locations throughout the state, including state parks, college campuses, high schools, technical schools, and churches.
All UCE courses are taught by electricians, certified electricians, and maintenance technicians. Each course is divided into two segments. During the first segment, you will learn the basic skills needed to work in the electrical trade. During the second segment, you will learn a set of skills specifically tailored to the electrician’s duties. In both segments, you will go over how to apply that knowledge to perform the necessary tasks required in the trades.
Each course is designed to meet the needs of the individual. Instructors have been successful in combining the theory learned in class with hands-on experience on the job to help you gain the knowledge and skill you need to work as an electrician.
The UCE course fees are based on what type of course you attend. These fees are non-refundable. After attending a UCE course, you can apply that fee toward your course fee for a total class fee of $48.
How can I find a UCE course in my area?
UCE’s website features a handy search tool that allows you to find a UCE course near you. If a UCE course is not offered in your area, you can search for “Electrical” to see what other types of electrical classes are offered. The electrician job market is always evolving, and the UCE team is constantly assessing the changes and updating the curriculum to keep the classes relevant.
To find the information you are looking for, the UCE website features a free Online Job Roster database which includes the many job openings in the electrical industry.
What is the required education to enroll in a UCE course?
To enroll in a course, you must have a high school diploma or GED or a certificate of general education completion. If you do not meet these requirements, you can apply to receive a waiver of the fee by completing the educational qualifications provided on the UCE website. If you have been previously enrolled in a UCE course and received a degree or certificate, you can apply for a refund by completing the requirements for a degree or certificate.
